This delicious and nourishing fruit has been entered into the holy land of Iran during the Achaemenid Empire.

This fruit needs extreme heat to be ripened and sweetened, and southern people call Khurma Pazan[1] to this process, for this reason, dates have been planted in different southern regions of Iran since that time. Dates are essentially in the palms group which possess medicinal and therapeutic benefits. Dates are essentially warm and nutrient in the food pyramid, which is extremely emphasized to eat.

The average per Capita consumption of dates is 7 - 8 kg for each person in Iran, which has gotten sixth rank in the world. Sauda Arabia is the largest consumer of dates in the globe, with a consumption of 34 kg per individual currently. The palm tree, with tall and stable stature, is the first tree that has been enacted law[2] for it. The most important types of dates are produced and exported in Iran such as Zahidi, Piarom, Kabkab, Rabbi, Mazafati, Estemaran, Sayer and Shahabi.
